A steadier path for system updates.
Testing and stable channels now follow dated package snapshots, with promotion rules for the packages Ecliptic uses. Automated VM checks are under active development.
What changed
The first dated package snapshot has been checked and connected to the testing channel. The updated desktop package includes the channel configuration for my computer.
Promotion rules consider changes to Ecliptic’s packages and their dependencies. Ordinary changes wait on testing for 12 hours; watched packages wait for 24 hours. Major changes to watched packages and new Arch news require an explicit decision. Security fixes skip the time wait, while those holds still apply.
What was checked
A VM switched to the snapshot, synchronized package lists and completed a package upgrade. Promotion rules were checked with simulated snapshots and exercised on the live mirror, where the stable channel advanced when only unrelated packages had changed.
What remains
Automated VM checks before promotion are under active development. This entry records the channel upgrade and promotion checks above; it does not claim that every snapshot has passed the complete VM testing pipeline.
